Our History

A history of chasing perfection

We’re proud to say that we’ve been a family-owned, perfection-obsessed zinc plating company for over 40 years.

Plateco was founded in a garage in Necedah, Wisconsin in 1974 by the Schweich brothers, who were convinced that there was an opportunity to provide a level of zinc plating quality and service that was dramatically better than what was being provided to zinc plating customers at the time.

Allen and Gerald Schweich oversaw two major expansions of the company: the construction of a 5,000 square foot facility in Necedah in 1977, and the move to a new 10,000 square foot facility in Reedsburg, Wisconsin in 1982.

Gerald’s son Jim and Allen’s children Tom, Jerry and Mary eventually joined the company and quickly demonstrated that they had inherited their fathers’ passion for perfection.

By the time Allen and Gerald turned the running of the company over to their children in 2012, the two generations of Schweichs had overseen four additional expansions leading to the current facility’s 75,000-plus square foot size and a workforce of over 90 talented and committed perfectionists.

A third generation of Schweichs is now involved in the management of Plateco, with Jim’s daughter Monique Guyse is in charge of the company’s Sales and Quality Control departments.

And as her title – Senior Sales Perfectionist – attests, she too inherited the Schweich perfection gene.
